Agility
Thank you for your
interest in the Waggin’ Tails agility program. We are pleased to offer a fun and comprehensive agility
program. Agility is an active
sport involving teamwork between you and your dog. You direct your dog through an obstacle course over jumps,
across ramps, through tunnels, and more.
Dogs love it!
What Dogs can do Agility?
Any dog that is healthy,
fit, and friendly. The sport of
agility encourages all breeds to compete from Yorkies to Great Danes and mixed
breeds are welcomed! We have
classes for dogs 6 months and older.
So far the oldest dog we’ve had in class has been an 11-year-old
Labrador Retriever!
Agility Classes Available:
In our program there are 5 levels that you and your
dog work to complete at your own pace.
Each level teaches different and progressively more advanced concepts
and you must meet the requirements for each level to advance to the next. As soon as you are able to pass the
test for Level 2, you may advance to Level 3 and so on. Level 1 is on leash; all other levels
are off-leash classes.
·
Level 1 – Intro to
Agility - starts dogs out on each of the obstacles until they are familiar with
them. This class is 4 weeks and
you automatically move to Level 2.
·
Level 2 – Obstacle
Proficiency - focuses on individual obstacle performance working toward
confident, fast, accurate performance of each obstacle.
·
Level 3 – Beginning
Sequencing – builds sequences of obstacles working on confidence, speed, body
language, distance, and distractions.
·
Level 4 –
Intermediate Sequencing – teaches basic handling maneuvers required for longer
more complicated sequences. Focus
is on smooth flow, speed and accuracy.
·
Level 5 – Advanced
Sequencing – teaches more advanced handling and prepares students for
competition.
There are also
“continuing education” classes for agility enthusiasts. They will cover topics such as
strategies for the agility competition games, distance handling, and more.
Practice:
Once you are enrolled in an agility class you may
practice on the equipment anytime there is not a scheduled activity on the
field.
Our training methods are
based on positive motivation utilizing toys, treats, petting, and praise to
make training fun and successful.
You will need to bring treats and toys to class to reward your dog for
trying new things! This is a great
activity just for fun and fitness, an energy outlet, and even confidence
building. You may decide to try
competitions or you may simply enjoy getting out for fun with your dog.
Please contact Waggin' Tails at (512) 990-2016 or kim at waggin-tails dot com to register for
classes and for any questions about the program. Private lessons are also
available. We do not allow dogs with aggression problems in group classes, but
we would be glad to assist with behavior problems before enrolling you in
agility classes.
